www.classic-barges.com
| rooms |Thailand, Central Thailand, Bangkok,

Arguably, the most luxurious vessel on the river, the 'Montha' plies the Chao Phraya and its tributaries, providing accommodation and facilities in a luxurious yet traditional style. Based on an antique rice-barge, 'Montha' is almost totally constructed from golden teak and mahogany; she has many unique concepts which make her stand out from the other barges on the river. Her upper deck includes an air-conditioned lounge and dining area that is inspired by turn of the century colonial architecture, featuring solid golden teak panelling and a hand carving depicting a scene from the Ayutthaya period. Below decks the Main Stateroom has a conventional king-size bed and en-suite bathroom; a multi-purpose saloon, also with a full en-suite, provides flexibility in usage of the vessel. All features on the lower deck are on one level and are similar to a hotel suite. No-one could reasonably equate the accommodation on 'Montha' to an overnight sleeping compartment of a train, no matter how prestigious. "Montha' is licensed by the Ports and Harbours Authority as a passenger-carrying vessel and also licensed as a floating restaurant. Her elegance and comfort make 'Montha' equally suitable for business entertainment, holiday or for that special occasion such as a honeymoon cruise. Group Travel can also be arranged when passenger numbers cannot be accommodated aboard overnight. Riverside hotels, boutique resorts and restaurants are located at various places along the river and can be utilised as required. Anantara Siam Bangkok Hotel
http://siam-bangkok.anantara.com/
| 396 rooms |Thailand, Central Thailand, Bangkok,

Originally opening as the Bangkok Peninsula in 1983, with a lobby reminiscent of the parent hotel, The Peninsula Hong Kong, the property later became The Regent of Bangkok and later again The Four Seasons Bangkok. Magnificent in each of its incarnations, Anantara Siam Bangkok Hotel exudes classic hotel luxury and calm. Beyond the pair of symbolic sandstone white elephants, which greet you on arrival, one is guided over a lotus pond, through the front doors and into the vast, high-ceilinged lobby that combines a Western sense of worldly pleasure with the Eastern concept of eternity. High above on the ceiling, is a uniquely Thai depiction of the cosmos, a hauntingly beautiful series of mandala-type silk paintings covering every section of the ceiling.

“Eastern & Oriental Express” (Hua Hin to Singapore)
https://www.belmond.com/trains/asia/eastern-and-oriental-express/
| rooms |Thailand, Central Thailand, Hua Hin,

It is possible to join the famous "Eastern & Oriental Express" in Hua Hin on its southbound journey to Singapore. Departure is from the most beautiful railway station in Thailand.

In 1921 the director of the state railway, Prince Purachatra, built the Railway Hotel, now the Sofitel Central Hua Hin Resort, close to the beach. King Prajadhipok (Rama VII) liked the place so much that he built a summer palace in Hua Hin. The palace was named Wang Klai Kang Won ('Far from Worries'). It is now the full-time residence of His Majesty the King of Thailand. His Royal Highness Prince Krom Phra Naresworarit was the first member of the royal family to build a group of palaces at Ban Laem Hin, called Sukaves, and he gave the beach next to his palace the name Hua Hin.

The luxury train, the "Eastern & Oriental Express", was first built in Japan in 1972 and operated as the Silver Star train in New Zealand. It's carriages were then remodelled and designed by Gérard Gallet, the man behind much of the design and refurbishment of both the British Pullman and the Venice Simplon-Orient-Express.

The inspiration for the interiors is derived from the East. The carriage walls are decorated with veneers of wooden marquetry with Eastern designs, while the bar and restaurant cars are decorated in Chinese and Thai lacquer using Malaysian motifs with Thai wall carvings and engraved mirrors. The open-deck of the Observation Car also has an Oriental theme, and for much of the train local materials have been used.
On board the Eastern & Oriental Express, the atmosphere harks back to a 'Colonial' age of rattan chairs on the verandah, linen suits and tea dances.

Centara Grand Resort & Villas Hua Hin
http://www.centarahotelsresorts.com/chbr/chbr_default.asp
| 249 rooms |Thailand, Central Thailand, Hua Hin,

This wonderful old hotel was built in 1922 and originally had only fourteen rooms. It was built as the Railways Hotel following the completion of the new railway track from Bangkok to the beach at Hua Hin, site of the Royal Summer Palace. Although initially catering to the Bangkok elite, by the 60’s and 70’s the place was rundown and had become a backpackers favourite. Taken over by the huge French Accor group in 1986, the hotel was expanded dramatically but the original hotel buildings have been carefully maintained and the new accommodations have been built in the same 1920’s style. In 1983 the hotel became the “Hotel Le Phnom” during the filming of “The Killing Fields”.

Mandarin Oriental

| rooms |Thailand, Central Thailand, Bangkok,

Arguably the best hotel in the world. The Oriental has topped “world’s best” hotel surveys many times over. In a beautiful position overlooking the Chao Phraya River, the hotel has been in business for 130 years. The “Authors Wing” (1876) , with suites named after the likes of erstwhile residents Somerset Maugham and Joseph Conrad, is full of colonial character, while the modern new tower accommodations offer every luxury and the highest possible standards of service. The hotel claims that Joseph Conrad, Somerset Maugham and Noel Coward all stayed at one time or another, although the first of these probably did not – he lived aboard his ship moored in the river or, perhaps, stayed in the defunct Universal Hotel.
